FG APPOINTS NSE PRESIDENT CHAIRMAN OF VARSITY REVAMP PROJECT COMMITTEE

The Federal Government has appointed the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, as Chairman of a special committee charged with overseeing multi-billion-naira projects aimed at revitalising engineering and technology faculties across Federal Universities of Technology (FUTs) and conventional federal universities. 

The appointment was conveyed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, CON, in a letter dated February 4, 2026. Engr. Rabiu formally accepted the appointment on February 13, 2026.The committee, officially known as the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on TETFund Special High Impact Intervention Project for Engineering and Technology Faculties of Federal Universities of Technology (FUTs) and Conventional Universities, was inaugurated on Monday, March 2, 2026, by the Minister of Education. 

The initiative is being implemented under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High Impact Intervention Project. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister explained that the intervention has been deliberately designed to ensure that beneficiary universities evolve into genuine centres of theoretical learning, while also serving as hubs for hands-on training, applied research, innovation, and practical problem-solving.

The project is expected to significantly upgrade infrastructure within engineering and technology faculties nationwide, strengthen academic–industry linkages, and enhance Nigeria’s capacity for technological advancement and sustainable development. Engr. Rabiu’s appointment reflects the federal government’s confidence in the Engineering Profession and its recognition of the pivotal role Engineers play in national development and industrial transformation.

In his acceptance speech at the formal inauguration of the Committee, Engr. Rabiu said, “It is a distinct honour to be entrusted with this important national assignment, and we are deeply grateful for the confidence reposed in us and our respective organizations“ We gladly accept this responsibility and are fully committed to contributing meaningfully to the success of this initiative, at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), we have consistently advocated for the advancement of engineering education, making it more practical, industry-driven and innovation-oriented, this federal government initiative, meant to strengthen engineering education and enhance its relevance through hands-on, impactful interventions is therefore highly commendable”. Engr. Rabiu assured the Minister saying “I am confident that, working collaboratively, we will achieve significant progress in transforming Engineering faculties across Federal Universities in Nigeria”.
